El analisis de En estado de memoria (1990), novela escrita por Tununa Mercado, nos permite problematizar del papel del trauma como generador de memoria y la capacidad de esta para subvertir una historia totalizadora. Desde la distincion que Amos Funkenstein propone entre memoria individual y colectiva, este trabajo estudia la representacion de los procesos de memoria por los que atraviesa la protagonista del texto. El ensayo identifica tres etapas a lo largo de la narracion: primero, se ocupa de los mecanismos de construccion de los recuerdos. Despues, a partir de una lectura benjaminiana del duelo y la melancolia, argumento que la manifestacion del duelo de la protagonista se convierte en una empresa productiva politicamente.
