Abstract
Cette note de recherche propose quelques pistes pour problématiser, à partir du constat de la contingence de la naissance, quelques-unes des hiérarchisations des appartenances qui sont maintenues à travers l’idée de l’État(-nation) comme paradigme dominant de l’organisation politique. La première partie analyse les contributions libérales culturalistes de Margaret Moore et de Michel Seymour pour montrer comment elles reproduisent certaines limites de l’État territorial moderne qu’elles cherchent précisément à dépasser. En outre, elles endossent une hiérarchisationde facto(et en fin de compte contingente) des (re)définitions légitimes de la citoyenneté et de l’appartenance. La deuxième partie s’intéresse aux réflexions d’Hannah Arendt sur l’État-nation, la citoyenneté et les apatrides. Les travaux d’Arendt paraissent pouvoir inspirer une compréhension des expériences ordinaires de la citoyenneté sensible aux inégalités liées à la contingence de la naissance.
