Abstract
Depuis les premières années de la Monarchie de Juillet jusqu’aux avant-gardes fin-de-siècle, la poésie a dû trouver un asile précaire dans les journaux parisiens et dans la petite presse littéraire. Or, le support médiatique n’offre pas seulement aux poètes un mode de diffusion conforme aux attentes culturelles de l’époque, mais il marque de son empreinte particulière et reconnaissable l’esthétique de la littérature post-romantique, l’infléchissant dans une direction qui aurait été inimaginable sans lui, la « modernité ». Telle est l’hypothèse que cet article se propose d’étayer, grâce à l’étude exhaustive de toutes les prépublications en périodiques des futurs poèmes des Fleurs du mal de Baudelaire. Cette étude permettra de tirer un double enseignement. Sur le plan diachronique, elle changera sensiblement la physionomie et le sens de l’oeuvre baudelairienne, l’inscrivant dans une dynamique historique et collective qui fait évidemment défaut aux recueils de 1857 et de 1861.
