Abstract
Résumé L’auteur montre le rôle essentiel dans l’orientation des réformes éducatives aux États-Unis, que jouent les cercles de réflexion. Depuis la présidence de Reagan, le consensus progressiste qui dominait dans les années 1960 a été peu à peu remis en cause par un réseau de cercles conservateurs ouvrant la voie à une nouvelle hégémonie culturelle dominée par l’application des principes du marché libre aux écoles publiques et par une responsabilisation toujours accrue des individus face aux institutions. Tout en reprenant le discours progressiste d’aide aux élèves défavorisés, les cercles conservateurs sont parvenus à battre en brèche le soutien aux programmes de discrimination positive et à diffuser une pédagogie centrée sur un régime disciplinaire strict.
