Abstract
Considérant le choix de poursuivre des études collégiales comme une décision d'investissement, il est possible d'en évaluer le rendement. Les données du Recensement de 1981 et l'Enquête sur les finances des consommateurs de 1982 permettent de calculer des profils de revenus pour quatre groupes de Québécois : les diplômés du secondaire et du postsecondaire, hommes et femmes. En considérant l'écart entre les revenus des deux types de diplômés, on peut établir une mesure de rentabilité sociale et de rentabilité privée. Il ressort de ces calculs que le taux de rendement d'un DEC professionnel est excellent ; mais lorsqu'un détenteur d'un DEC général ne poursuit pas ses études à l'université, ni lui ni la société n'ont fait un bon investissement.
