Abstract
Depuis 1992, le discours pour une agriculture plus respectueuse de l’environnement s’est traduit par une multiplication des instruments et dispositifs de politiques publiques visant à orienter le changement des pratiques des agriculteurs. Le portefeuille de dispositifs agri-environnementaux (DAE) facultatifs s’est étoffé. Mais à La Réunion, l’« équipement » des possibilités de choix réalisé par les institutions agricoles pour opérationnaliser ces DAE limite les marges de manoeuvre des agriculteurs et aboutit à un paradoxe : aux prises avec les exigences de rentabilité, les services publics agricoles continuent de cibler des agriculteurs professionnels et marginalisent encore davantage les agriculteurs informels, situés en dehors des réseaux administratifs, pourtant source potentielle de pollution plus grande que ces premiers, et essentiels pour la ruralité réunionnaise.
