Les revendications traditionnelles des communautés francophones minoritaires visent l’accès à des services publics ou la gestion d’institutions dans leur langue. Ces revendications sont légitimées par laLoi sur les langues officielleset s’appuient sur des arguments légaux. Or, des luttes récentes menées dans des municipalités de l’Ontario et du Nouveau-Brunswick pour légiférer les langues d’affichage commercial ont déplacé les enjeux linguistiques dans la sphère et dans l’espace publics, faisant apparaître le paysage comme nouvel enjeu. Ce texte porte sur la mobilisation pour légiférer les langues d’affichage commercial dans le Grand Moncton. Cette revendication a fait apparaître quelques dynamiques structurelles d’une sphère publique et d’un territoire bilingue et a mis en évidence quelques limites des sciences sociales francophones en milieu minoritaire.
