Maquillage, sexualité et culte de la Vierge Marie en Occident La première partie de cet article présente la critique des études du maquillage en anthropologie. Elle fait le point des données disponibles sur ce thème dans plusieurs groupes culturels. La deuxième partie fait l'analyse sémiotique du maquillage occidental et de son symbolisme chrétien. Tout en admettant les significations sexuelles du maquillage occidental, l'auteure estime qu'on les a trop soulignées, aux dépens de ses valeurs spirituelles, évidentes dans son style d'emploi, et dans les parties du corps, les occasions et les couleurs privilégiées. Les signes du maquillage occidental forment un tout cohérent si on les rapporte à la gamme des types de personnalités chrétiennes représentées.
