Résumé Cet article présente d’abord une synthèse de la littérature sur la déviance. Il expose ensuite l’historique d’une entreprise québécoise rurale à la fois atypique et exceptionnellement rentable, qui a vu son chiffre d’affaires s’améliorer sur une période de vingt ans alors qu’elle œuvre dans un secteur fortement concurrentiel ; c’est maintenant une des deux ou trois entreprises les plus importantes et les plus rentables dans son secteur en Amérique. La description de ce cas réel insiste surtout sur le choix, sur l’implantation et sur le développement d’un leadership «déviant», à l’écart des normes admises. En somme, l’article présente un portrait du dirigeant déviant et interprète les raisons de sa réussite. Finalement, il traite des exigences et des limites qu’implique pour les dirigeants l’adoption d’actions, d’attitudes et de comportements qui divergent des normes.
