Abstract
Le thème de l'imaginaire est devenu à la mode dans la recherche sociologique. Au fait, il vaudrait mieux dire que ce thème est revenu sur le devant de la scène. Ce mouvement de pendule s'est répété plusieurs fois au long de l'histoire de la sociologie. Comte se faisait théoricien du positivisme; il aboutit à la fondation d'une « religion ». Marx insistait sur la production, non sans déceler la part immense de l'imaginaire dans cette production. Par allers et retours, Durkheim parcourait les chemins qui vont de la morphologie aux représentations, pour accorder finalement à celles-ci une prééminence qui se manifeste d'une manière éclatante dans Les formes élémentaires de la vie L’ infrastructure et de la superstructurel On le voudrait. L'explication scientifique aspire à la parfaite cohésion de ses références. Pourtant, à observer ce qui se passe dans les sciences de lanature, la cassure de la systématisation est la règle : ondes et corpuscules, phylogenèse et ontogenèse, d'autres oppositions foncières témoignent que les conflits, les antinomies importent souverainement au progrès de la pensée. En serait-il de même pour la classique opposition de Y infrastructure et de la superstructure ?
