Cette contribution traite de l’influence éventuelle de l’âge des associations sur les caractéristiques sociodémographiques de leurs dirigeants bénévoles. Elle utilise à cette fin les données d’une récente enquête menée en France auprès d’un grand nombre d’associations. Ces données permettent de confirmer la faible représentation des femmes et plus encore celle des jeunes dans les fonctions de dirigeants. Elles montrent que les premières sont nettement moins présentes dans les bureaux des associations les plus anciennes. La probabilité pour les jeunes d’assumer des responsabilités est également plus grande dans les associations les plus récentes. Les actifs sont particulièrement bien représentés dans les bureaux des jeunes associations. Les catégories sociales pourvues d’un fort capital culturel sont fortement représentées parmi les dirigeants, quel que soit l’âge de l’association.
