Programme d'enseignement à distance en Afrique subsaharienne 1 L'Université virtuelle africaine (UVA), programme d'enseignement à distance, a été mise en place pour compléter les systèmes éducatifs de l'Afrique subsaharienne qui, dans le domaine de la formation universitaire, connaissent de grandes difficultés.Confronté à une croissance des effectifs étudiants plus rapide que celle du corps enseignant, à la vétusté de ses infra-structures et à une pénurie de locaux, l'enseignement supérieur voit dans l'utilisation des TIC (technologies de l'information et de la communication) et dans l'enseignement à distance une réponse à cette crise. 2 L'Université virtuelle africaine 1 , association à but non lucratif dont le siège se trouve à Nairobi au Kenya, doit sa conception à Étienne Baranshamaje, expert et haut fonctionnaire burundais de la Banque mondiale et a comme objectif de donner aux Africains des formations de pointe sans qu'ils soient obligés de quitter le continent.Ce programme d'enseignement à distance, en utilisant la transmission par satellite, est orienté pour l'essentiel vers les formations scientifiques et techniques.Il a pour ambition de former une nouvelle génération de scientifiques, d'ingénieurs, de techniciens et d'hommes d'affaires, capables d'amorcer et de soutenir le développement économique de leurs pays respectifs.
