Abstract
Que signifie « archiver », sinon créer une trace ou ranger un document dans un lieu ? Ce rapport spécial au lieu ou à l’objet apparaît précaire pour qui veut construire les fondements de la connaissance, de la démocratie ou de l’alphabétisation à la source des savoirs, des identités et de la mémoire individuelle ou sociétale. En effet, le fait d’archiver semble peu enraciné dans l’anthropologie sociale, économique ou culturelle. Ce texte s’interroge sur la genèse du mot et sur les conséquences qu’implique le sens précis, parfois même limitatif, du verbe « archiver ». Trop souvent, cet acte semble imperméable aux changements humains, alors même qu’il recèle un potentiel vital et dynamique, nécessaire au fonctionnement de nos sociétés.
