Une série de recherches issues de la littérature sur la prévention des défaillances d’entreprises constatent que le processus de défaillance diffère d’une entreprise à l’autre et que, plus particulièrement, toutes les entreprises n’entrent pas pour les mêmes raisons dans un processus de défaillance (Argenti, 1976 ; Laitinen, 1991). Cependant, malgré ce constat, à ce jour, peu de recherches proposent une taxonomie (ou une typologie) 1 mettant en évidence différents profils d’entrée dans un processus de défaillance. Par ailleurs, aucune d’entre elles ne se focalise réellement sur les micro- et petites entreprises en difficulté alors que la littérature démontre que la défaillance de ce type d’entreprises est fréquente et spécifique (Julien, 2005). Partant de ces lacunes dans la littérature et sur base d’une analyse inductive et qualitative, cet article propose une taxonomie originale. Focalisée sur les micro- et petites entreprises en difficulté, cette dernière met en évidence sept profils spécifiques d’entrée dans un processus de défaillance.
