Unter dem Motto Moving physical therapy forward trafen sich 3500 Physiotherapeuten aus 90 Ländern im kanadischen Vancouver. Alle 4 Jahre lädt der Weltverband World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) ein, um sich über Therapietrends zu informieren und das Neuste aus Wissenschaft und Forschung zu diskutieren. Das direkt am Meer gelegene Kongresszentrum bot ausreichend Platz für 1641 verschiedene Vorträge, Workshops und Diskussionsveranstaltungen sowie eine Industrieausstellung mit über 185 Ausstellern und knapp 1000 wissenschaftlichen Postern ([ Abb. 1 ]). Abb. 1 Posterausstellung des WCPT-Kongresses. Im Rahmen der abendlichen Eröffnungszeremonie wurde der Mildred Elson Award verliehen. Diesen Preis vergibt die WCPT an Personen, die sich in besonderem Maße für die Physiotherapie engagiert haben. Der 5. Award ging posthum an Jules Rothstein, den ehemaligen Chefredakteur der amerikanischen Zeitschrift Physical Therapy . Den Preis nahmen seine Frau und seine jüngere Tochter entgegen. Am Tag nach der Eröffnung startete der Kongress mit dem wissenschaftlichen Programm. In der Fülle an Vorträgen war für jeden Physiotherapeuten etwas dabei.
