Abstract
L’une des différences importantes dans le calendrier de la transition de la fécondité qui s’est produite à partir de la fin du XIXe siècle a trait à la religion, les régions à concentration catholique ayant en général connu un déclin plus tardif que les protestantes. Mettant à profit des sources comme les recensements, les statistiques d’état civil et l’Enquête de fécondité du Québec, ce texte s’attache à analyser le déclin de la fécondité au Québec comme révélateur de certaines formes de transgression de la morale catholique : transgression de l’idéal de la famille nombreuse prôné à différents niveaux de la hiérarchie catholique, puis transgression des règles très précises édictées en matière de contraception.
