Depuis les années soixante, l’historiographie québécoise est marquée par la perspective moderniste. Téléologiques, les grands récits modernistes qui traversent notre historiographie, qu’ils soient libéraux ou marxiens, font souvent l’impasse sur la nature particulière du conservatisme canadien-français qui, selon nous, ne saurait se réduire àl’autrede la « bonne » pensée (libérale ou sociale-démocrate). Le contexte de désenchantement actuel par rapport aux ratés de la modernité québécoise permet probablement de considérer autrement le conservatisme canadien-français en lui-même et pour lui-même. Reste cependant à se demander si ce conservatisme canadien-français peut éclairer certains débats actuels sur la démocratie ou le néolibéralisme.
