Abstract
The article presents the results of the excavation carried out under the LM III levels of the Nu Quarter at Malia (Crete). The discovery of remains of the Protopalatial period suggests that the part of the town situated between the Gamma Quarter and the Mu Quarter was inhabited during MM IIB. The plan of a house, several of whose rooms were uncovered, is suggested; the rooms exhibit architectural features typical of the Protopalatial period: walls, benches, earth stairs covered with stucco, floors of large hard limestone paving stones joined with red stucco. The pottery found can be dated to MM IIB, the period in which the house was destroyed by fire. The remains beneath the south part of the Nu Quarter suggest the existence of another Protopalatial house.
