Le présent article explore quatre facettes du processus de négociation culturelle engagé dans la pratique du travail de rue. La négociation du mandat social du travail de rue est d’abord mise en lumière, après quoi sont décrites les négociations culturelles engendrées par la démarche d’immersion des travailleurs de rue dans le monde de la rue. Une troisième partie aborde les stratégies déployées par ces praticiens pour enraciner leurs interventions dans un univers de sens co-construit avec les personnes accompagnées. Enfin, une dernière partie montre comment le travail de rue donne lieu à diverses occasions de médiation entre les univers culturels marginaux et institutionnels. L’utilité de la grille culturelle comme outil d’analyse de l’intervention est mise en relief en conclusion.
