Abstract
This paper describes an L-Band SSPA designed for multi-port high power amplifier using Butler matrix. In a MSS (mobile satellite service) type payload, the SSPAs need to be operated at various output levels with high efficiency. Since the SSPA quantities are large, the size, and weight are also important. In this paper we talk about a 40 dBm to 45.3 dBm variable output power SSPA. The output power is varied using drain voltage and drain current of the output device and the driver amplifier. NPR of >14 dB has been achieved with power added efficiency of >30% over a 5 dB output power range.
