De 1973 à 1990, le régime militaire d’Augusto Pinochet modifia divers secteurs de la société chilienne par la mise en place de mécanismes de contrôle autoritaire et de politiques économiques néolibérales. Le secteur de l’éducation n’échappa pas à ces transformations. Dès le lendemain du coup d’État, la dictature introduisit dans le milieu scolaire chilien plusieurs réformes qui eurent des impacts majeurs sur les conditions de travail des professeurs de l’enseignement secondaire. Étant un groupe socioprofessionnel composé majoritairement de partisans de la gauche politique et de l’Unité populaire (1970-1973), les professeurs furent perçus par le régime militaire comme un risque potentiel à l’application adéquate de réformes néolibérales dans le système d’éducation chilien. Il sera donc démontré dans l’article suivant que la détérioration des conditions de travail des enseignants au secondaire découla de la perception du professorat chilien par l’État militaire, lequel considérait ce groupe socioprofessionnel comme un facteur de risque et de menace à l’implantation de son projet éducatif.
