Abstract
Les Groupes d'action en santé du coeur constituent un projet pilote de développement communautaire visant à promouvoir la santé cardiovasculaire en milieu de pauvreté. Deux expérimentations ont été réalisées de 1991 à 1994 dans un quartier défavorisé de Montréal. L'évaluation vise à expliquer leur mise en oeuvre par l'observation de la communauté cible et de l'intervention. L'analyse montre que la stratégie de mobilisation communautaire adoptée par les promoteurs du projet (la Direction de la santé publique de Montréal-Centre) n'a pas conduit à la création d'un véritable partenariat au regard des priorités et des objectifs. Elle révèle cependant que l'éducation populaire comme base d'intervention en petits groupes a favorisé la participation des citoyens, en plus d'offrir du soutien et de réduire l'isolement, d'améliorer l'estime de soi et de susciter le développement de projets dans un contexte sécurisant 2 .
