Résumé En utilisant une approche de sociologie économique fondée sur les travaux de Testart (2007), cette recherche illustre les formes de transferts économiques et leurs contenus effectués par les clubs sportifs professionnels vers les organisations caritatives au Canada et en France au début du xxi e siècle. Nous illustrons les différences importantes existant entre les deux pays quant aux types d’engagements caritatifs, à leur ampleur, à la communication qui leur est rattachée, à leur intégration dans une stratégie d’entreprise plus globale et à la mobilisation des parties prenantes des clubs que ces engagements impliquent. Bien que les dons soient majoritairement utilisés dans les deux pays, des échanges marchands et non marchands permettent aussi de réaliser ces transferts caritatifs au Canada. Nous proposons une explication de ces différences en nous référant aux travaux d’Esping Andersen (1990) sur les modèles d’États-nations. L’accroissement des engagements caritatifs des clubs français depuis quelques années est expliqué par le changement de statut légal et symbolique que connaissent ces organisations.
