Abstract
In this paper, a feedback-based method for detecting two low-frequency resonance characteristics of a dynamic instrument integrated into a MIS tool is presented. The proposed dynamic instrument captures two resonance frequency shifts simultaneously using a phase-locked loop feedback system. Accompanied with amplitude information, these shifts are used to determine viscoelastic properties of a soft tissue. Some important advantages of this method are that it is robust and simple in comparison to other similar instruments; it works fast, and is capable of capturing dynamic mechanical properties of viscoelastic tissues.
