Abstract
La demande modifiée, soumise par Maranda au Conseil de Recherches en Sciences humaines du Canada en 2009, pour rédiger une monographie sur la Barque blanche, une pirogue rituelle des Lau de Malaita (îles Salomon), a été ici enrichie par Sandra Revolon, d’une part quant à la partie théorique, d’autre part pour ce qui a trait à des pirogues du même type dans une autre société des Salomon, les Owa de Aorigi (à l’est de Malaita). La part « d’immatériel » dans l’objet de culture dite « matérielle » qu’est La Barque blanche ne comporte que le volet traditionnel puisque son interprétation chrétienne n’a pu être sondée auprès des enfants et des petits-enfants des païens qui l’ont construite. Mais Revolon fait écho à cette dynamique immatérielle en milieu chrétien parmi les Owa. L’article s’intéresse néanmoins à cette seconde partie du projet dans une longue annexe.
