Abstract
Il y a dans la langue et la littérature une corrélation intime entre les formes de désignation du « lieu » et les formes de dénotation de la « personne », comme si la représentation de la subjectivité et, partant, de l'intersubjectivité, avait partie liée avec celle de la spatialité. La poésie d'Yves Préfontaine, depuis Boréal jusqu'au Désert maintenant, regorge d'expressions lexicales (substantifs, verbes, adjectifs) ou morpho-syntaxiques (prépositions, pronoms démonstratifs, adverbes) renvoyant au lieu et à l'espace, qui servent de substrat à la présentation du Soi et de l'Autre ou de l'identité (l'ici, l'ego) et de l'altérité (l'ailleurs, l'alter). En suivant l'itinéraire des premiers aux derniers textes, de la fin des années cinquante à la fin des années quatre-vingt, on repère une mutation de la sensibilité poétique de l'auteur, qui passe d'une représentation substantive ou nominale du lieu comme « terre » ou « pays » à une représentation déictique de l'espace comme tension insoluble entre un « ici » et un « ailleurs », étroitement liés aux instances de renonciation et de la perception. Il en résulte une autre image de la subjectivité, moins dépendante de son ancrage dans le « lieu nommé » qu'indéfiniment changeante selon le mouvement propre à la deixis enunciative.
