Abstract Noch vor dem Beginn der modernen Optik, sogar vor Erfindung der Halbleiterelektronik erblickte ein optoelektronisches Sensorprinzip das Licht der Welt, das die Detektion von Bewegungen durch die Abbildung auf ein Gitter ermöglichte. Aber erst in den 1960er Jahren führte ein tieferes Verständnis der Signaltheorie hinter dem optischen Aufbau zu einer weiten Verbreitung dieser Technologie für die berührungslose, schlupffreie Messung dynamischer Vorgänge. Der vorliegende Artikel beschreibt Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft eines Meßprinzips, auf das sich zwei Schwesterfirmen in der Tradition der ehemaligen Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH spezialisiert haben.
