L’objectif de cet article est de proposer un déplacement des problématiques issues de la traductologie dans un domaine très éloigné qui est celui de l’histoire de l’art, et de la photographie d’architecture en particulier. La plupart des photographes spécialisés dans ce domaine comparent leur pratique à une forme de traduction. Pour autant, la confrontation entre ces deux disciplines ne semble pas aller de soi, et requiert pour être opérante un travail de définition préalable et une réflexion autour de ses enjeux. Il ne s’agira pas d’assimiler ou de confondre ces deux domaines spécifiques en niant leurs différences, mais plutôt d’ouvrir un espace de questionnement transversal en les interrogeant de manière dialectique. Nous mesurerons ainsi en quoi certains concepts, certaines notions, voire certaines méthodes traductologiques peuvent s’appliquer à cette discipline et permettent de la comprendre sous un angle inédit. Nous montrerons comment le couple conceptuel « sourciers / ciblistes » permet de nuancer la dichotomie traditionnelle entre « photographie créative » et « photographie documentaire », puis dans quelle mesure la notion de « défectivité traductive » confrontée à celle de « perte d’aura » photographique conduit à interroger le statut du photographe-interprète.
