O Estado de Pernambuco produz flores tropicais (Heliconiaceae, Zingiberaceae, Costaceae, Araceae) principalmente na Zona da Mata e Litoral. As condições climáticas da região favorecem a época de florescimento, coloração, tamanho das inflorescências e qualidade das hastes. O agronegócio de flores em Pernambuco está organizado em associações e cooperativas, e tem crescido nos últimos dez anos devido a investimentos privados e do governo nos setores produtivos, pesquisa e preparação para o mercado externo. Este artigo teve como objetivo descrever a seqüência das práticas utilizadas na colheita e pós-colheita de flores tropicais a fim de orientar produtores e fortalecer a comercialização. Com estas estratégias Pernambuco procura tornar-se mais competitivo no setor da floricultura e um expoente na exportação de flores.
