Abstract
La figure exotique de l’Autre a fait l’objet de nombreuses études dansAline et Valcour, mais a été peu traitée dans les autres récits sadiens. Le présent article porte sur les personnages noirs mis en scène dans les romans pornographiques et dans une des nouvelles de Sade, aussi bien à l’écrit que dans les gravures : quatre d’entre elles comportent des figures de Noirs dans trois romans différents. L’étude des liens entre texte et image permet de mesurer l’écart qui existe entre ces deux modes de représentation des Noirs, mais aussi entre les Noirs et les Blancs. Si cette confrontation révèle des différences, elle montre également de curieux exemples de métissage symbolique.
