Cet article porte sur un forum de discussion du site Al-Arabiya et sur la succession de commentaires qu’une dépêche à propos d’incidents confessionnels à Esna, en Egypte, y a suscitée. Il aborde la question de l’identité en tant qu’elle est constitutive de cette succession de commentaires en même temps qu’elle en est l’objet. Mais l’identité appartient aussi aux éléments constitutifs de l’activité virtuelle elle-même et s’affiche pour caractériser autrui, s’auto-caractériser et lier des droits et obligations à ces actes catégoriels. À ce titre, elle s’inscrit dans la normativité de la cognition pratique, c’est-à-dire la cognition telle que saisie en acte. L’article s’attache à décrire les formes concrètes d’ordonnancement du comportement conceptuel, communicationnel, relationnel et instrumental des gens, tel qu’il se déploie in situ sur ce forum.
