Abstract
Malgré la différence d’échelle et de contexte historique, la comparaison entre le Québec et le canton de Fribourg, entités majoritairement francophones dans des confédérations qui ne le sont que partiellement, et dont la ville principale est bilingue de fait mais pas de droit, semble s’imposer. L’étude du discours de deux organisations militant pour la défense du fait français, la Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréal et la Communauté romande du Pays de Fribourg, met en évidence les analogies et les différences qui peuvent exister entre ces deux sociétés dans la perception du territoire – qu’il s’agisse, au Québec, du lien entre territoire, peuple, nation et langue, ainsi que du discours sur l’indivisibilité du territoire, ou, à Fribourg, de l’utilisation du concept de territorialité dans un débat linguistique ancré avant tout dans le cadre cantonal.
