Abstract
FormerFormer medical director Grace General Hospital, St John's, Newfoundland, Canada (b 1923; q St Mary's Hospital, London, 1955), d 24 April 2006. Figure 1 Hubert John Warrick (“Paddy”) began general practice in Newfoundland in 1957. From 1967 to 1987 he was medical director of the Grace General Hospital in St John's. From 1992 to August 2005 he wrote a weekly health column in the Telegram, the St John's daily newspaper. As health columnist, he combined his love of writing and his concern for current health issues. While attending St Mary's Medical School he supported his family by working for the British Consulate, escorting visiting dignitaries. His most memorable encounter was when he introduced Gerhard Domaqk, the inventor of sulpha drugs, to Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of penicillin. Predeceased by his wife, Pat, he leaves five children and 12 grandchildren.
