Abstract
Dans cette recherche, nous tentons de cerner les variables qui permettent d'expliquer les differences de performance en mathematiques entre eleves et entre classes de sixieme primaire en Belgique francophone. Nous mettons en evidence l'influence de la composition de la classe, du climat de discipline et du rythme des cours sur les resultats des eleves. En outre, nous analysons dans quelle mesure l'influence des caracteristiques de la classe varie en fonction de la composition de la classe (caracteristiques moyennes des eleves au sein des classes). Nous montrons que dans les classes plutot « defavorisees », les resultats des eleves en mathematiques sont meilleurs lorsque l'enseignant fait appel a leurs representations initiales et que le rythme des cours est soutenu.
