Abstract
Le texte s'efforce de préciser, à partir de la description, à peine ébauchée ici, d'un poème de Guillevic intitulé « l'Eau douce », la place qui revient au rythme dans l'élaboration de la signification. Pour l'essentiel, le rythme a ici rang de présupposant, si bien que les caractéristiques, qui lui ont été reconnues par les uns et par les autres, découlent de la place qu'il occupe dans la hiérarchie. Le niveau général est celui de l'intensité ; le niveau suivant est celui de la démarcation qui fixe la direction, circulaire ou linéaire, du parcours; le troisième niveau est celui de la segmentation qui établira les continuités et les discontinuités internes du texte. Le rythme, enfin, par la distribution des accents dans les énoncés, transmet les inflexions qu'il reçoit des niveaux précédemment mentionnés.
