Abstract
Watsuji Tetsurô, la modernité et la culture japonaise Le philosophe japonais Watsuji Tetsurô fait partie d'un groupe d'intellectuels qui, dans les années 1930, ont remis en question la modernité occidentale. Watsuji a critiqué l'Occident pour son individualisme et pour sa propension à la division de ce qui devrait être uni. Pour freiner l'influence de la modernité occidentale au Japon, il a défini une éthique fondée sur l'insertion des individus dans la société. Ce faisant, il a cependant utilisé les moyens philosophiques de l'Occident, en particulier les concepts de Husserl et de Heidegger. De plus, il a adopté une définition de la nation, vue comme le regroupement le plus englobant, qui s'inspire des définitions occidentales de l'Etat-nation moderne.
