Abstract
Le présent article porte sur un fragment d’oratorio de Marc-Antoine Charpentier découvert parmi la musique vocale religieuse adaptée dès le dernier quart du XVII e siècle par les jésuites du Canada à l’intention des Abénaquis convertis au catholicisme. La reconstitution du parcours ayant mené la Chanson des Bergers (H.420) depuis Paris jusqu’au Canada, tout autant que le processus d’adaptation de l’oeuvre aux nécessités de son nouveau milieu, sont au coeur de l’analyse que nous proposons.
