L’expansion du travail précaire, conséquence du système japonais de production flexible La production flexible, inventée au Japon dans un contexte de sécurité d’emploi, a été importée aux États-Unis après 1975, afin de faire face à la concurrence japonaise de plus en plus efficace. Dans le contexte américain, différent de celui du Japon, la production flexible a entraîné l’affaiblissement des syndicats et une forte augmentation du travail flexible. Associée à un fort développement des nouvelles technologies, la production flexible américaine a redonné au pays une force compétitive accrue. La flexibilité à l’américaine a été réimportée au Japon dans les années 1990 dans un contexte de crise ce qui a donné lieu à une remise en question de la sécurité d’emploi et à une augmentation du travail précaire.
