Abstract
Quels sont les facteurs professionnels et de santé qui font que les salariés se jugent -ou non- capables de rester dans leur emploi jusqu’à la retraite ? D’après l’enquête française VISAT, la proportion de salariés qui disent ne pas se sentir capables diminue avec l’âge. Reste qu’à 52 ans, c’est encore le cas de 14 % des femmes et 6 % des hommes. La pénibilité du travail actuel et passé (pénibilité posturale, port de charges lourdes, etc.), un mauvais état de santé perçue, influent significativement sur ce jugement. Mais les résultats soulignent le rôle important joué par des variables relatives au sens du travail (telles que le travail permet d’apprendre ou avoir les moyens pour faire un travail de qualité).Cinq ans plus tard, les salariés de 52 ans qui avaient répondu en 1996 ne pas se sentir capable d’occuper leur emploi jusqu’à la retraite ont (toutes choses égales d’ailleurs) une probabilité plus forte de ne plus être en emploi soit pour retraite ou préretraite, soit pour chômage ou inaptitude ; à 32 ans ou 42 ans, ils ont une probabilité plus élevée d’avoir changé de travail, ou d’être au chômage.
