Abstract
Selon l'Étude canadienne de 2004 sur les événements indésirables, jusqu'à 23 750 décàs hospitaliers potentiellement évitables se produisent chaque année. Ainsi, 51,4 % des événements indésirables se sont produits lors de la prestation de soins chirurgicaux. L'Hôpital d'Ottawa a adopté un programme intégré de gestion de la qualité périopératoire inspiré du programme national d'amélioration de la qualité chirurgicale (NSQIP) de l'American College of Surgeons. Au moyen d'une analyse par arbre des causes fondamentales intégrée à un cycle d'amélioration par processus planifier-faire-etudier-agir, le NSQIP entraînera une amélioration des issues postopératoires au sein de la plus grande organisation universitaire de santé au Canada.
