Abstract
Cette étude porte sur le problème du harcèlement et de l'abus sexuels dans le sport de haut niveau. Des recherches faites au Canada et au Royaume-Uni démontrent que le harcèlement et l'abus sexuels constituent toujours un problème sérieux et répandu. En 1993, des athlètes canadiens ont révélé à la télévision nationale, l'existence de cas de harcèlement et d'abus sexuels dans des sports très populaires au pays, soit l'aviron, le volleyball et la natation. Ces révélations ont provoqué des remous. Des organisations sportives nationales se sont alors lancées dans le développement effréné de politiques sur le harcèlement sexuel, comme si elles cherchaient à se protéger autant qu'à protéger leurs athlètes. Les résultats de notre enquête auprès des athlètes des équipes nationales du Canada confirment que le harcèlement et l'abus sexuels sont de sérieux problèmes dans le sport de haut niveau et soulignent l'importance de repérer cette violence, d'en connaître le motif et de trouver la raison de sa persistance dans le sport aujourd'hui.
