Abstract
La Déportation est l’événement capital de l’histoire de l’Acadie — un événement qui a marqué et qui continue de marquer la culture et la société acadiennes. Dans cet article, l’auteur examine les mémoires acadiennes de la Déportation telles qu’elles se sont manifestées lors des commémorations de 1930, de 1955 et de 2005 et lors de la querelle des « excuses de la Reine ». Il examine aussi la question : « Pourquoi se souvenir? » Évoquer la Déportation ne sert-il qu’à entretenir la victimisation des Acadiens et le sentiment tragique de leur existence en tant que peuple dépossédé? Au contraire, avoir une conscience historique ne signifie-t-il pas se percevoir dans une continuité, dans un projet? Le débat entourant la Déportation est loin d’être clos et que ce soit dans les romans récents, dans les manuels d’histoire ou lors des commémorations, le sujet demeure d’actualité.
