Cet article aborde le phénomène de l’auto-mythification et de ses caractéristiques par la mise en perspective de la vie de Ludmilla Chiriaeff (1924-1996), personnalité de la danse au Canada, considérée comme la pionnière de la danse classique au Québec. Il s’agit de comprendre comment une jeune émigrante venue au Québec au début des années 1950 s’est forgée une histoire personnelle et professionnelle en partie inventée et quelles étaient ses motivations. L’analyse d’un bricolage biographique permet d’explorer le phénomène dans ses dimensions historiques et sociales. Le désir de survie, d’intégration et de reconnaissance à la base de ses motivations transparait à travers une présentation d’elle-même fabriquée dans le but de mieux intégrer le marché du travail dans un Québec à l’aube de son affirmation nationale.
