A novel algorithm for error correction in six-port-based direct receivers (SPDR) is introduced. The new adaptive method provides a software correction of the hardware imperfection, such as phase and gain imbalance, improving the bit-error performances for direct receiver architectures. The resulting calibration procedure is performed on the incoming modulated signal, and has no need for additional standards. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
