Abstract
Les quelques occurrences du mot 'désordre' dans les Désordres de l'Amour de Marie-Catherine Desjardins (Madame de Villedieu) ne suffisent pas à rendre compte de l'importance de la notion dans ce roman, tant au plan narratif que stylistique. Que l'on conçoive le désordre comme déplacement troublant ou comme dérangement instigateur de chaos, il convient d'observer que ce motif, pluralisé dans le titre, traverse toute l'œuvre au point où il la donne à penser comme manifeste politique, social, littéraire et esthétique en général, d'un projet visant à ériger la notion de chaos au rang de moyen au service d'une fin qu'il nous appartiendra de définir. Dans cet article, je serai amenée à chercher les différents sens que peut recouvrir la notion de désordre(s) dans Les Désordres de l'Amour, pour parvenir à la conclusion que Desjardins, en balançant entre moralisme et libertinage, propose une définition nouvelle de la liberté comme expérience vécue du désordre, par opposition à l'ordre universel donné comme idéal éthique et social par Louis XIV et ses contemporains.
