On considre souvent qu'il n'y a pas de place dans la philosophie de Spinoza pour le problme de la thodice ou pour la question de la conciliation de la justice, de la sagesse et de la puissance divines avec la prsence apparente de mal et d'imperfection dans le monde. Son rejet d'un Dieu providentiel semblerait carter soi seul toute approche spinoziste du problme. Toutefois, Spinoza a bel et bien beaucoup dire sur la question de la thodice. En niant l'immortalit personnelle de l'me, Spinoza offre de manire, je crois, pleinement consciente une rponse l'approche traditionnelle qu'on trouve au sein de la philosophie juive mdivale, celle qui repose sur les rcompenses attendre de la vertu dans le monde venir . De plus, on trouve effectivement les composantes de l'approche de Spinoza dans cette tradition antrieure, et la conception de Spinoza est une continuation naturelle d'un courant l'intrieur du rationalisme juif mdival.
