Abstract
Dorian Gray, Dracula, Peter Pan : trois figures mythiques du refus du temps qui passe apparaissent en deux décennies à Londres au tournant des XIXe et XXe siècles. Et si leur refus du temps était un refus de ce temps-là ? Héros ou anti héros, les personnages mythiques sont confrontés à la même modernité déroutante – le nouvel empire de l’argent, de la technique et des institutions – mais on n’échappe pas à son époque, et quand l’individualisme forcené s’oppose au conformisme docile, cela s’apparente finalement à ce combat contre le double que donnent à voir les trois œuvres. Impossible de cesser à volonté d’être modernes, même si Peter Pan lorsqu’il choisit l’enfance et le pays de Jamais incarne le refus le plus radical, celui qui ne cesse de nous faire rêver.
