Abstract
De nos jours, il est impossible d'établir un programme scolaire de géographie sans tenir compte du critère psychologique. Il semble que l'on doive renoncer aux catégories d'âges, à l'échelon international du moins, et qu'il soit préférable de déterminer des niveaux de compréhension géographique. Ceux-ci pourraient se ramener à trois principaux : - L'approche indifférenciée et globale, au stade de l'enseignement élémentaire, pouvant se situer entre 6-8 ans et 10-11 ans. - L'approche formellement géographique, au stade de l'enseignement moyen ou du premier cycle de l'enseignement secondaire, soit de 10-11 ans à 14-15 ans. - L'approche proprement scientifique, au stade du second cycle de l'enseignement secondaire, soit de 14-15 à 18-19 ans. Comme exemple de compréhension, l'auteur décrit et explique la genèse de l'idée de patrie chez l'enfant et le passage de la notion de patrie à celle des nations étrangères. Le processus de compréhension s'effectue en trois stades, aux niveaux d'âge de 7-8 ans, de 10-11 ans, puis à des âges plus avancés.
