Abstract
Cette étude qualitative illustre les différences et les similitudes entre l’expérience de l’incertitude des pères et des mères lors de l’annonce de la déficience motrice cérébrale (DMC) et des stratégies d’adaptation mises en place. Des entrevues ont été conduites avec 17 parents (10 mères et 7 pères). Les résultats révèlent trois déclencheurs d’incertitude principaux : l’incertitude relative à la survie de l’enfant, l’imprévisibilité de l’évolution de l’enfant et l’ambiguïté de l’information sur la DMC. Les déclencheurs d’incertitude sont les mêmes pour les deux parents, mais leur façon de réagir aux déclencheurs et les choix des stratégies d’adaptation diffèrent chez les deux parents. Des recommandations cliniques sont présentées.
