In Brief This article reports the findings of a program evaluation undertaken to determine outcomes of a clinical extern program. Survey and focus group methodology was used to elicit descriptive data. Evaluation findings illuminate the contributions that clinical externs made in providing patient care and the factors influencing role development. These findings can assist educators and preceptors in planning the education and clinical support required for role development. The authors report the findings of an evaluation of a clinical extern program.
